About the Island

Sao Vicente is the third smallest of the islands that make up the Cape Verde archipelago but it is home to the country's second largest city, Mindelo.

Mindelo is considered the cultural hub of activity and is proud of its rich tradition of music and art. The town retains much of its old charm with cobbled streets and colourful buildings. Many restaurants and bars have live bands which play the traditional Moura music.

Sao Vicente also hosts the annual Baia das Gatas music festival, this three day festival offers the sounds of African and Cape Verdean music, as well as jazz, salsa, fado and reggae.

The Cape Verde islands boast near perfect wind conditions from late November to June, making this a windsurfer's paradise. Kite surfing has also taken off in the last few years.

The Cape Verde Islands offer the perfect terrain for horse riding.  In Sao Vicente you can ride along the unspoilt beaches or in the mountains among the old volcanoes.
