    Sao Vicente Overview   

Land development on Sao Vicente Island Cape Verde is in a number of different areas.  The bay of Mindelo including Lazaretto is slowly being developed.  Property construction is also happening in Baia das Gatas and Calhau. A new road from Baia das Gata to Calhau is being build which will really help the land development on the Eastern side of the island.

Sao Vicente is best known for the city of Mindelo. It is the second largest city in Cape Verde and the country’s cultural capital. Mindelo has the arts, amenities and night life that are envied throughout the country. It also hosts one of the country’s deepest port, which has long been a refuelling point for transatlantic ships.

There is a new International Airport on Sao Vicente.  The amount of flights to the island are still limited but the volume will increase over time.

The development of Sao Vicente will be boosted by a new NATO base of 7,000 personnel which is to be placed on Santa Luzia, a small island to the East.  The Americans helped with the development of the new international airport in Sao Vicente to facilitate the new military base.  A Dubai based company recently made the biggest investment in the history of Cape Verde, purchasing 1.5 million square metres of land in Sao Vicente for a new project.
