Boa Vista
Overview
Boavista is the most eastern of all the Cape Verde
islands, lying some 445km from the west coast of Africa.
It was discovered in 1480, and was named St Cristovao (Saint
Christopher), then later Boavista (literally Good/Nice View).
It is the most sparsely populated of all the inhabited islands, with
just 3,353 islanders claiming it as their home – a place of peace and
tranquillity, where people lead a simple life, away from the pressures
of the modern world.
A new international airport is
under construction on the island of
Boavista.
Boavista is now also beginning to move
forward significantly. There is much more development planned in and
around Sal Rei and near the new
international airport. The new runway has been built and the new
terminal is now under construction.
Boavista
has recently built its first tarmac road, as the old road passed where
the new runway is. To see a picture of the new terminal
